Educational Options Divisional Update

Options Academies

I was approached at the last Principal’s meeting about the possibility of an Options Academy for Talawanda, Edgewood, Ross, and Madison. They are not satisfied with the service that they are getting from the Butler County ESC.

OAA

· OAA students are struggling with academics; need a blended learning environment.

· Interested in the lunch program (really interested in getting lunch coordination into someone else’s hands.

OAFF

· Focusing on OGT passage this year. They know what a priority it needs to be.

· Bob (through his staff) will be developing a reduced content Algebra II course.

OAW

· Transportation is going OK.

· Lee (with the staff) is exploring ways to expand… Have to think creatively.

CBIP

· Still waiting to hear from SanMar…

· Working with Adult Ed. to operationalize the use of WorkKeys across CBIP… ODE likes this idea…

· Lakota and Madison have been informed about the “no-go” on their CBIP Programs.

Transitions Programs

We have been working with our partners (RSC, BCBDD, JVS, and Workplace Associates) to think through the transitions performance measures and if they appropriately quantify what the programs do. We will probably benchmark some new additional measures.

Project SEARCH

· Really happy with the curriculum work that the team has done. They have moved onto the assessment piece of development work. The assessment will be rubric based. Just starting this process.

Project LIFE

· Getting lots of positive feedback about “leveling” Project LIFE.

· Have started the selection process.

Butler Tech Online

· We continue to work with CBTS and the Catholic Schools. Notre Dame currently provides an online program that seems to parallel GRACE and we’ve been invited to share the GRACE program with Notre Dame.

Reena Fish Elected to a State Office

During an OASCES Association Meeting at the State Topical Conference in Columbus, Reena Fish was elected President-Elect for the State Executive Board of OASCES. This is a professional organization that she has been active in for many years. Reena is quite honored to be serving on the state board once again.

OASCES is an organization that works closely with ODE's Office for Exceptional Children and the Association of Career Tech/Special Needs Division to plan an annual state conference on transition and other ventures related to transition needs and services for students with disabilities across the state. The organization is also dedicated to providing pertinent resources and information to Special Needs Coordinators and Supervisors in order to keep them up to date with happenings at the state and local levels.

Congratulations, Reena!
